Hidden Airline Credit Card Charges Exposed

Hidden Airline Credit Card Charges Exposed

You may want to control your instincts this winter and ignore the budget airline advertisements plastered on multiple billboards.

Budget airlines for charging extra for services you may not know about. Customers could end up paying 30% more than the advertised sums as a result of extra fees such as credit card charges.

The companies bmibaby, EasyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 were analysed in a study by Which?, in relation to four destinations: Paris, Rome, Malaga and Faro.

All of these companies charge extra for credit or debit card use and also for checking in luggage. Flying to Paris with bmibaby showed a 25% increase in price when both of these services were used and for Ryanair it meant £50 extra across all of its routes.

EasyJet had the smallest luggage and credit card charges out of all of the airlines, though this still means £26 – £38 extra. Ryanair’s charges saw tickets at 8 – 29% higher than what was advertised, so make sure you aren’t fooled by these advertisements and are aware of the credit card charges before booking.

It has been argued that these are essential rather than additional services and therefore, airlines should not charge for them. A holiday without luggage seems ridiculous, particularly at this time of year where skiing necessities fill the holds of many planes.

Also, the main way to book budget flights is over the internet, which means that it is virtually impossible to pay through another method than credit card.

30% of Ryanair customers use Visa Electron credit cards or debit cards to avoid extra card charges.

However, Ryanair seem to have realised and are therefore intending to charge for the use of the Visa Electron as of the 1st of January. So, if customers use this credit card in the New Year, £5 will be added per flight, per person.

Ryanair claim that the card charges are used to fund their website rather than as addition personal income. They also claim that the change in policy with the Visa Electron card has been prompted by the fact that the card is being phased out in the UK. It has been confirmed that after the 14th of December, Abbey will not be issuing this card to customers.

Mastercard pre-paid cards remain the only loophole. These are now the only way to avoid a booking fee with Ryanair.

Pre-paid cards are the opposite of credit cards seeing as you put money on them in advance and then spend it.

However, there can be charges for even applying for one of these. The Tuxedo PAYG Prepaid Mastercard, for instance, charges a £9.95 application fee and a 3.5% ATM charge. So, if you are thinking about applying for one so you can evade Ryanair card-charges in the future, make sure you compare cards to find the best one for you.

Make Online Transactions Faster with a Credit Card Processing Service

Make Online Transactions Faster with a Credit Card Processing Service

Despite the availability of other online payment options and direct bank withdrawals, research shows that more than two-thirds of online shoppers prefer to use credit cards for all of their online purchases. Offering frequent flier miles, reward points and other perks for regular users, credit cards are a convenient and often rewarding experience for the shoppers who use them. If your business is not accepting credit cards for online orders, it’s a good bet you’re losing a large share of potential customers.

Credit cards offer more than just a significantly wider base of customers. By accepting credit cards, you can make online transactions move more quickly and more smoothly. Instead of waiting for checks or online bank payments to clear, credit card purchases can be processed in a matter of moments, allowing you to process your orders with confidence.

Credit cards became popular in the mid-19th century with the advent of store-specific charge cards. These cards offered regular shoppers a convenient way to make purchases without having to carry large amounts of cash. Merchants with catalogs, like Sears and Montgomery Ward, were anxious to cash in on the ease offered by charge cards, and soon began accepting telephone orders which were paid for with the store’s charge account. Soon afterward, credit cards became available. Unlike charge cards, which were accepted only at a single merchantw, credit cards were accepted at a wide number of retailers and other business establishments, making them especially popular with shoppers whose wallets were becoming burdened with multiple cards from the merchantws they patronized.

As the internet has become more widely used and more and more merchantws and service providers have turned to the web as a legitimate and highly profitable source of business, more and more consumers have embraced credit cards as a preferred method of payment. As noted previously, merchantws who accept credit cards have a significant advantage over those who choose not to accept them as payment.

Processing credit card information is a detailed process that is handled with ease by large credit processing networks. The steps required for a transaction to be approved are fairly straightforward. During the order process, the customer enters his or her credit card number, as well as other account information, including name, address and, in some cases, a personal identification number (or PIN) or card identification number. The card information, as well as the total amount of the transaction, is submitted to the credit card processing company for approval.

Once the transaction is approved, a confirmation number is transmitted to the merchantw and the sale is complete. The merchantw usually submits receipts to the credit card processing company on a regular basis for reimbursement, although some processing companies have automated this process, as well. The amount of the purchase is then transferred to the merchantw account within a few days of the purchase, and often sooner.

Although the actual transfer of funds into the merchantw’s account can take two or three days, once the transaction is approved by the credit card processing center, your fees are guaranteed, which means you can process and ship your orders more quickly than with other types of online payment options.

In addition to offering a 24-hour source of information on nearly any subject imaginable, the ease and convenience of online shopping has also resulted in a specific set of expectations from the customers who shop online. Like the instant gratification of the internet itself, online shoppers expect to receive their orders quickly and without delay. This consumer-driven expectation is another reason for merchantws to seriously consider opening a merchantw account that will allow them to accept credit cards as payment. When orders are delayed as the result of slower forms of payment, such as bank transfers or checks sent via the traditional mail system, customers often grow impatient and become less likely to use vendors that do not offer the option of credit card payments.

While some services offer merchantws the option of accepting credit cards, these services may also charges fees that are similar to those fees charged by dedicated credit card processing companies. However, unlike traditional merchantw accounts, some services offer another level of corporate red tape to wade through when billing errors occur. Dealing directly with a merchantw account provider can help you to avoid the headaches and hassles that can occur when dealing with a third-party account.

Studies show that more and more consumers are turning to the internet for their shopping needs. Offering a wider variety of goods than can be easily accessed in traditional brick-and-mortar stores, as well as offering savings in gasoline costs, online shopping is definitely here to stay. To remain competitive as more and more merchantws enter the online shopping space, it’s essential to offer your customers every convenience. To keep your business on top, you need to consider the advantages of opening a merchantw account that will allow you to accept online credit card payments with ease.

Tips on How to Choose the Right Credit Card for You

Tips on How to Choose the Right Credit Card for You

Is there such a thing as a “right” credit card? Looking around at the numerous credit card offers sometimes adds to the confusion instead of helping one make a concrete decision. One of the simplest solutions to battle the information overload? Decide what you really need in a credit card; more specifically – decide why you need it. Don’t get too excited with the prospect of your first purchase using a shiny, spanking credit card, and instead focus on the responsibility of having one. It may seem too serious, but this may very well spell the difference between a great deal and a gigantic debt for you.

As a new credit card holder, it is easy to get tempted with the freebies and perks signing up for a certain credit card might include.  Some of these tempting goodies include automatic and/or free club membership, free products or services at partner stores, initial discount offers on consumer goods – and the list goes on. But remember- everything comes with a price, and oftentimes it’s a hefty one. The freebies might be a way to cover up the high interest rates, or the exorbitant activation or participation fees. This does not mean that the perks are always the devil in disguise – depending on your lifestyle and needs, the free services and goods might just be what you need.

Going back to the matter of how to choose the right credit card – it’s all objective. Credit card X might be the best for your friend and her lifestyle, but may not be able to provide you with the services and benefits you need. Asking around can be your guide in choosing what credit card has the most benefits, but nothing beats choosing a card that is tailor fit for most, if not all, of your needs. To help you choose the best out of all the credit cards out there, here are some simple guidelines:

•    Identify what the credit card will be used for/how it will be used – Will the card be used for huge purchases? Or just for utilities? These are just some of the questions that need to be considered so you can check which cards have the benefits you need, like rebates for gas purchases, special deals if you reach a minimum purchase amount, frequent flyer perks, and so on.

•    Take the time to read the fine print – Are there any late payment/finance charges? If so, how much would they be? These can be answered by carefully reading the fine print. Avoid just browsing through the long and somewhat redundant terms and conditions, and make an effort to really understand them. The terms discussed on the disclosure section are one of the most important things you should consider when shopping for the right card – think things over and decide if you can definitely keep up with the credit card company’s policies.

•    Determine how you will manage the payment – Do you plan on settling the full amount of the bill each month? Or do you plan to carry over a certain percentage? Be sure to take into consideration not just the interest rates but how long the grace period would be before your bill incurs late charges (for payments not made on time).

The fact of the matter is, nothing beats the convenience of having a credit card. In this day and age, there are certain places and situations when carrying cash would not be advisable, so the next best thing is to pay with plastic. Just make sure that you’re getting the best deal out of your credit card – think more than twice before deciding and choosing what type of “plastic” might take over your (real) financial life.

Credit Card Debt Services – Find Solutions to Credit Card Debt

Credit Card Debt Services – Find Solutions to Credit Card Debt

The present solutions to an unsecured debt are very different from the ones available few months back. The economic conditions have changed drastically and at present credit card debt services are being used for the reduction of unsecured bills. Settlement companies are hired by the people who think that they would be unable to pay their bills to the bank. The settlement companies reduce the payable amount by providing credit card debt services.

A settlement company holds negotiations with the bank in which the rate of reduction is decided. Finance granting firms which are already in a weak state try to provide the account holders with the lowest possible reduction. Hence when the customers attain a low reduction, the bank gets a higher sum. An elimination percentage cannot be predicted beforehand. However, of your relief company does not get a relief ratio that is above sixty percent then the relief company is not worth hiring.

Credit card debt services can be searched on in internet and there are various companies which can be searched and compared. Beware of scams as several illegitimate companies are listed online. There is no assurance whether these companies are legitimate or not until their registration status is checked. It is better if you can get hold of a company providing credit card debt services in a short time period.

This is because you should not expect that once the economic conditions are back to normal, banks will not be able to give you the leisure of not paying their liabilities. Hence until the recession conditions are present, the customers can get their liabilities eliminated legally. If you have a liability which is more than or equal to ten thousand dollars then you can get some portion eliminated though credit card debt services. However when you are looking for a relief company, be aware of certain factors.

You should discuss the costs and charges with the settlement company in advance. Credit card debt services are being used to reduce the monetary pressures that you have. In case of unemployment, these pressures are increased. As a loan taker, make sure that you do not have to pay extra charges when the negotiation process is complete. Bankruptcy is yet another option which provides monetary relief. If you declare officially that you are bankrupt then there are no chances of the bank claiming any repayments from you.

The standard which the relief company has also matters a lot. A low standard legitimate company will not help in convincing the bank management.

5 Things To Consider When Hiring Online Credit Card Processing Services

5 Things To Consider When Hiring Online Credit Card Processing Services

5 Things To Consider When Hiring Online Credit Card Processing Services

Branching out globally is a sure way to keep your clientele growing voluminously. With an online credit card processor, you can now accept all forms of payment anytime from anywhere in the world. However, selecting the best online credit card processing service will probably seem a little daunting with the number of options available in the market. Let us look at 5 main points that you should consider to make the task viable.

1) Fixed fees

Learn about all the costs by reading your contract conscientiously. The common fixed costs are as follows:

Start up costs Gateway fees Statement fees Monthly minimum fees Software costs

Please note that as the market is very competitive, some online credit card processing service providers offer all or some of the above for free. Be sure to compare as many service providers as you can before reaching a decision. Also be aware that some providers may charge hidden costs that may have been added on arbitrarily. Read your contract carefully before making the final decision.

2) Transaction fees and discount rates

These charges are applied to every credit card payment that you accept. It is important that you select a service provider which enables you to increase your profits. Your selection has to be suitable for your type of business and transactions. Suppose your transaction fee is .25, your discount rate is 3% and your sale is 0, then you would make .75 from that sale and pay your provider .25. If your transaction fee and discount rate is the same as above while your sale is 00, you would then make 9.75 and pay your provider .25.

Let us say that you managed to shop around more and find a better deal with a transaction fee of .20 and discount rate of 2.25%. You would then effectively make 7.30 and pay your provider .70 for the same 00 sale. However, if your average sale is only 0, the lower charges would cost you only .45. Since your average sales size is small, the difference in the charges may not make much difference to you. You should then focus more on the monthly fixed costs when making the final decision. As you can see, depending on your volume and size of sales, a small difference in the charges may or may not translate to big differences in your profits and expenses. Search for the best deal that suits your business needs.

3) Security

Credit card numbers are stolen every day. In order to protect your customers as well as your business, ensure that the online credit card processing service provider you hire is secure, and encrypted. One of the accreditation you can look for is ScanAlert. It is given to providers who are considered safe from hacking and who comply with the rules set up by the major credit card companies in the world to protect your customers’ credit card information. For further information you may want to refer to http://www.scanalert.com/. To help identify service providers who would protect you and your customers, search for customer feedback on the security features offered by them.

4) Customer support

As a merchant accepting credit cards online, you are bound to run into problems. In times of need, it is crucial that you receive prompt, effective assistance 24/7. Obtain referrals from currents users of the service provider to ensure that you would be given excellent personalized assistance.

5) Incentives

Once you have compared the all-important rates, security and quality of customer service and narrowed down your choices, you can now focus on the incentives given by the service providers. As online credit card processing service is highly competitive, most service providers are willing to throw in freebies such as free advertising of your company in popular search engines. Get one that gives you value for money.

Disputing Credit Card Charges

Disputing Credit Card Charges

Unlike a stolen credit card, an unauthorized or wrongly billed amount is not limited to a liability. As a matter of fact unless you take steps and dispute a credit card charge, the credit card company assumes that you accept the charges and are willing to pay the charges. There can be a variety of reasons for an incorrect amount being charged to your credit card, the first could be that the merchant has made a billing mistake, the second could be that a family member has used the credit card without your knowledge and the worst case scenario, it could be that someone has stolen your identity and is using an add on card to make purchases. In any event it is important to dispute these charges the moment you spot a discrepancy in your card statement.

The first thing you should do is write down every single charge made to your credit card that does not belong to you or is wrongly charged. It is important to sit down and study every new credit card statement religiously. Once you spot an incorrect charge the simplest thing to do is to write it down, instead of getting to work straight away make sure that you analyze the complete statement. Once you have isolated all the incorrect charges make sure that they are do not belong to a family member.

Another thing to note is, if you have made internet purchases the transaction might appear differently on your credit card statement, for example if you shopped with xyz.[com], the charge on the card statement might show as ABC info systems. This is because the merchant account is not in the name of the website but in the name of the company that made the website. Make sure you analyze the statement thoroughly so that you don’t have some genuine charges listed as disputable charges. It is prudent to keep a printed receipt of all internet transactions so you can compare the date and time of the transaction with the disputable charge on your credit card statement.

Once you are sure that the incorrect charges on your credit card are probably a merchant error the first thing you should do is get in touch with the merchant. Instead of going to the credit card company, first contact the merchant and let him know about the error. In most cases merchants accept their mistakes and usually reverse the charges. Sometimes merchants do not agree to reverse the charges, in such cases the next step is to get in touch with the card company.

Call up the credit card company’s customer services and let them know that you want to dispute a charge. The customer care agent usually asks you for the transaction ID, the date of the transaction and also the nature of the dispute. Once you let the customer care executives know the charges you want to dispute they usually send out a couple of forms for you to fill out. The ‘dispute forms’ require you to write down in detail the nature of your dispute, and if possible require a copy of the receipt of the transaction.

Once you have sent the necessary paperwork to the credit card company allow the company a 30 day period to get back to you with an adequate response. If the card company does not get back to you in 30 days, refuse to pay the charges and threaten legal action. If you are turned down the first time, don’t worry get in touch with your card company and find out what options you have to further dispute the charges. Sometimes persistence pays off.

A word of caution, if you find more than one unauthorized payment on your credit card chances are that your identity has been stolen. In such cases you should get in touch with your credit card without any delay. Let them know that you feel that your card is being misused without your knowledge. By letting the card company know that you’re in fact the victim of fraud you can make sure that your liability is limited and the credit card company cannot charge you more than .
